The Dual Language Program is designed to prepare students to succeed in a world that is culturally diverse and in a global economy through academic achievement and proficiency in a second language.

  Program Overview

  • DCPS offers the 50/50 Two-Way Immersion Dual Language Program in elementary and middle school, while the high school model follows a 70/30 Two-Way Immersion model. 

  • Two-way bilingual immersion programs are additive programs in that a second language is acquired while maintain the first language of the students.

  • The program consists of classes as close to 50% Native English speakers and 50% of Native Spanish speakers as possible.

  • Both groups of student serve in the role of language model and language learner at different times of the day.

  • English language learners and Spanish language learners spend 50% of their classroom time receiving academic instruction in each language.

  • Students learn mathematics, science, social studies and language arts in Spanish and English.

Dual Language Schools

The Dual Language Program is a strand within the school.  All schools provide a general education program for neighboorhood students.
