Dear LaVilla School of the Arts Parents and Guardians,
We hope this message finds you well. We are excited to invite you to the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project Interest Meeting for the LaVilla School of the Arts site, taking place tomorrow afternoon.
Date: Thursday, September 12th, 2024
Time: 3:45 PM
Location: Room 111
During this meeting, we will provide important information about the organization and share the exhilarating developments for the inaugural year of LaVilla as a 5000 Role Models of Excellence site. We believe that this organization will have a significant positive impact on our students, and we encourage you to attend to learn more.
About the 5000 Role Models of Excellence:
Before we dive into the exciting future of LaVilla as part of this project, let’s reflect on the history of this initiative. The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project was founded by Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson in March 1993. During her time serving on the Miami-Dade County School Board, she observed young minority boys facing daunting challenges that often led to incarceration, involvement in the drug trade, or dropping out of school.
Determined to intervene, Wilson mobilized men from the community to become role models and mentors for "at-risk" youth, launching what was initially called the 500 African American Male Role Models of Excellence. The project quickly gained national attention and grew into a beacon of hope, empowering boys to become responsible men.
We are honored to bring this legacy to LaVilla School of the Arts and continue the mission of uplifting and guiding our young scholars. Tomorrow’s meeting is an opportunity for you to learn more about our role in this remarkable initiative and how you and your child can be involved.
Please mark your calendar and make every effort to attend this informative and exciting meeting. We look forward to seeing you and sharing this incredible journey with you.
If you have any questions or need further information, feel free to contact me at josephj@duvalschools.org.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to partnering with you in this important endeavor.
