Atlantic Coast High School’s Science Department continues to make waves as six teams from ACHS competed in the Northeast Florida Envirothon, bringing home victories across multiple categories. The Envirothon, a prestigious environmental science competition, challenges students to demonstrate their knowledge in areas such as wildlife, forestry, aquatics, soil and land use, and current environmental issues.
Competing against top schools from the region, Atlantic Coast’s teams showcased their expertise and commitment to environmental stewardship. According to Dr. Michael George, Principal of Atlantic Coast High School:
"I am incredibly proud of Dr. Sowell and our students for their hard work and dedication. Their success at the Envirothon is a testament to the strength of our science program and the passion they have for environmental studies."
All six teams walked away with wins in categories including Soil and Land Use, Wildlife, Forestry, and the Oral Presentation. Atlantic Coast also secured both first and second place overall, demonstrating the depth of talent among the school’s competitors.
The first-place team—comprising Roman Meyerholtz, Brayden Lopez, Brice Little, Alexi Sheno, and Yuchen Rong—will now advance to represent northeast Florida at the state-level Envirothon competition in April.
The Envirothon provides students with hands-on experience and real-world applications of environmental science. Through field tests and team-based problem-solving, participants develop skills that are critical for future careers in conservation, ecology, and environmental policy.
Atlantic Coast’s continued success in the competition highlights the strength of the school’s science curriculum and its commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of environmental issues. With a strong showing at regionals, ACHS is poised to make an impact at the state level and beyond.
Congratulations to all the students and coaches who contributed to this impressive achievement! Stay tuned as the Stingrays take on the best in Florida at the state Envirothon in April.
