Hello Stingray Nation,
We would like to remind everyone that students are NOT permitted to bring valentine’s items and gifts to school on Friday, February 14th. All items, such as candy, gifts, stuffed animals, cupcakes, balloons, etc., will be confiscated upon entry to campus. No deliveries of any sort will be allowed.
February 14th also marks the anniversary of the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in south Florida. This date tends to stimulate rumors of threats at schools throughout the nation. While we have no security threats at this time, the safety of students and staff is our highest priority, and we will continue to take the proactive measure of screening students and their belongings as they arrive on campus Friday morning. As we take the steps necessary to secure our campus, our thoughts remain with the victims, families, students, and the entire Marjory Stoneman Douglas community in remembrance of the lives lost and those forever impacted on this tragic day in 2018.
Progress reports for quarter 3 are now available to view in both the parent and student portals on Focus. Be sure to check and see where your student stands at this midpoint in the quarter and reach out to teachers to ensure that your student finishes strong the next few weeks. Also remember that all reports cards for the year, quarters 1 and 2, are also available to view through your Focus portal.
The next meeting of the PTSA is this week on Tuesday, February 11th, at 6pm in the media center. Everyone is invited to attend.
Stingrays! The Course Selection process for the 2025–2026 school year begins this week. School counselors will meet with students individually to select courses for the upcoming year. Before their meeting with the counselor, students will attend grade-level scheduling assemblies. At the assembly, students will receive an updated School Resource Handout, a draft copy of the Course Request Card, the Atlantic Coast Course Progression, and the Course Description Guide to help them prepare for their one-on-one meeting with their school counselor. The draft Course Request Card must be completed prior to the scheduled meeting, which will be arranged through the students’ English classes. Parents, please review and discuss your student’s course options and selections. During the individual meeting, counselors will use the draft Course Request Card to finalize the official Course Request Card, and students will have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have.
