Parent Resources: 

National PTA: Common Core State Standard (CCSS)

CPALMS : CPALMS is an online toolbox of information, vetted resources, and interactive tools that helps educators effectively implement teaching standards. It is the State of Florida’s official source for standards information and course descriptions.

Fry Word List : This PDF file provides a list of high frequency words with flash cards that should be recognized instantly by readers.

Student Resources:

DCPS Summer Reading by Grade Level

Storyline Online : This program is great for grades PK-5 and allows the child to select a book of their interest. The book is read aloud to the child with the illustrations on screen. Reading aloud to children has been shown to improve reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, and general academic aptitude, as well as inspire a lifelong love of reading.

Starfall : This program teaches children to read with phonics. It is perfect for preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, special education, homeschool, and English language development (ELD, ELL, ESL). Starfall is an educational alternative to other entertainment choices for children.

ABC Mouse : ABC Mouse offers more than 5,000 individual learning activities and more than 450 lesson plans geared toward PK-K students. 

MATH

XtraMath : This is a great resource to improving math fact fluency.

Math.com : This online math program is geared towards K -8th, providing a wide variety of math activities.

Keyboarding/Typing Skills:  A website geared towards increasing your child’s keyboarding skills, these programs are geared towards grades 2-5 and FREE. Typing web and BBC.

Grammar Skills:  This program is for grades 1-5 and works on a child’s grammar skills (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.) are all game based.  This website addresses a variety of language skills.  

Spelling City : This program is geared towards grades K-5 for spelling practice.
