Fletcher High School currently offers drone classes for eligible students. Last week students took their first flight last week and were able to produce pictures of the school, as well as the surrounding area. The goal for the students is to begin working toward obtaining their drone license with the FAA. Throughout the semester, students will have the opportunity to take the aeronautical knowledge exam titled, “Unmanned Aircraft General – Small”. In conjunction with FSCJ, we are scheduling a weekend prep class to help with the UAG. There is a nominal charge to take the exam; FHS will provide payment for 18 students. Upon passing the exam students will be eligible to apply for their Remote Pilot License. Once a permanent certificate is issued, pilots must maintain the certificate by completing recurrent training every 24 months. This is a unique opportunity for our students. Not only will they be able to earn college credit, they will have an opportunity to utilize their skills during various events on our campus. We are looking forward to growing the program.
