Commanding Officers:
The traffic unit is responsible for enforcing traffic violations in and around school safety zones. The traffic unit is directed to target school safety zones via traffic enforcement. Law enforcement should target high-visibility locations, including school zones and adjoining neighborhood streets where children travel to and from schools. To minimize risk to children and other pedestrians, it is critical to enforce speed zones in these areas. The main objective of the Traffic Unit is the reduction of traffic-related injuries and fatalities in and around school safety zones. The Traffic Unit strives daily to make the roadways surrounding Duval County schools safe. They routinely analyze traffic crash data and review citizen complaints. Once an area of concern involving moving traffic violations has been identified, officers proactively address those violations, especially those that contribute to traffic crashes or that may result in damage and/or injuries to our citizens.
