Jan. 13, 2024 – The Class of 2024 marched their way right into Team Duval history with a record-breaking graduation rate that exceeded the state average for the first time ever for years when the state did not waive testing requirements.
The good news gets better when just looking at the rate among traditional high schools: 95.3%, an increase of more than 3 percentage points from last year. The comprehensive graduation rate for Duval County – including charter schools and other alternatives – is now at 90.9%.
This continues an upward trend for the district’s graduation rate. Over the last 10 years, it has climbed more than 14 percentage points, outpacing the state in the rate of positive change. Since 2009, Duval has achieved a remarkable growth of more than 32 percentage points in its graduation rate compared to just 21 points statewide.
“The great work of our high schools in preparing students for graduation is supported by strong foundations in our elementary and middle schools,” shared Superintendent Dr. Christopher Bernier. “The rapid growth of the graduation rate in Duval County is strong proof of the quality of teaching and learning across our schools.”
Nineteen of the district’s 21 traditional high schools earned a graduation rate of 90% or higher. Some notable highlights include:
Andrew Jackson, Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, Darnell-Cookman School of the Medical Arts, Stanton College Preparatory, and Samuel Wolfson School for Advanced Studies all earned 100% graduation rates.
A. Philip Randolph Career Academies and Englewood High School had the highest graduation rate increases in the district, up by 9.35 and 7.23%, respectively.
Andrew Jackson had the highest increase over the last 10 years, with its graduation rate increasing 29.8 percentage points to 100.0% since the 2014-15 school year.
Additionally, student subgroups in the Class of 2024 achieved record-high increases in graduation rates. These groups include African American students (85.5), Hispanic students (85.3), Low Socioeconomic Status students (83.9), Exceptional Student Education students (88.0), and English Language Learners (76.3).
In a note to employees, Dr. Bernier expressed that this success reflects the dedication shown by Team Duval staff.
“I know I speak for thousands of parents and guardians of recent graduates when I say thank you for doing such amazing work with our students,” shared Dr. Bernier.
