The principal and district leaders pose with the national Blue Ribbon plaque

Dec. 18, 2024 – There was a spirit of joy and good cheer at Stanton on Wednesday as the school community took time before the holidays to celebrate a prestigious honor – being the only school in Jacksonville to be named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School.

In a show of school pride, students and staff wore Stanton shirts as they enjoyed the festivities, including field games and a BBQ lunch. For Principal Nongongoma Majova, this celebration during the school’s early release day was well-earned.

“This just shows that we have dedicated students, dedicated teachers, and motivated people in this building and we’re proud of their hard work,” said Majova.

Stanton was one of 356 schools named by the U.S. Department of Education to its 2024 cohort of National Blue Ribbon Schools. The school also had the distinction of being recognized under the Exemplary High Performing Schools category.

This recognition spotlights schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps.

“The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation’s students, serving as models for effective teaching and intentional collaboration in their schools and communities,” wrote U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona in a press release. “As we celebrate their achievements, let us look to these schools for inspiration as we champion education as the foundation of a brighter future for every child.”

This isn’t Stanton’s first time in the Blue Ribbon School spotlight.  It earned this honor in 1987 and 2018.

Congratulations to the Stanton Blue Devils on a job well done!
