Nov. 27, 2024 – It’s an opportunity to engage families and students with a “sweet” twist. Welcome to "Data and Donuts," an event designed to help parents, loved ones, and caregivers participate in their children's educational journey at Bayview Elementary School.
“Here at Bayview, we have shifted our engagement activities to meet the needs of our parents and families, because we want them here,” shares Principal Kelly York. “We want them to be as involved as possible, and this is one way with Data and Donuts in the morning.”
Through “Data and Donuts,” families are invited to visit their child's classroom and review their most recent academic data. As they review their progress, students commit to work toward their goals. To make things even sweeter, adults and students are treated to free donuts.
“It's good to get to know the teachers (and) find out what she's doing in class, how she's doing,” says Bayview parent Shakira Blackman. “The math, the reading, the iReady... just getting them prepared for testing for the end of the year and going to the next grade level.”
Team Duval visited the school’s most recent Data and Donuts event, coinciding with Family Engagement in Education Month. Watch the video below to see how parents, loved ones, students, and teachers are coming together with shared goals.
Families who wish to explore more ways to engage with their children can visit the district’s Family Engagement department page for a free calendar of activities in English and Spanish.
