July 22, 2024 – Beginning with the 2024-25 school year, middle and high school students who live under 2 miles from their assigned schools will be ineligible for bus transportation.

This is one of two recently updated transportation-related board policies being implemented this school year that align the district with state law.

Board Policy 8.30 applies only to secondary students who live under 2 miles from their assigned school. Approximately 1,100 students may be impacted by this update, and these families are being notified directly. Board Policy 8.32 extends the allowable distance from a bus stop to a student’s primary residence by a half mile. Both policies can be reviewed by visiting Chapter 8 of the School Board Policy Manual.

With these new updates – and as the opening of schools draws nearer – it is more important than ever for families to register as early as possible for bus transportation. While the July 15 soft deadline for bus registration has passed, it is not too late. The earlier families register, the earlier eligibility can be determined, and bus stop location can be provided.

Families can begin the process by visiting our Bus Registration webpage for more information.
