Our Induction Program for new teachers is dedicated to cultivating and retaining early career educators through a comprehensive approach.

Collaborating closely with professional development facilitators (pdfs) stationed at each school and teacher development and support specialists, our program provides tailored support to teachers, fostering their growth and success.

FEAPS

Through one-on-one coaching cycles, our specialists and mentors assist educators in honing their instructional skills. The emphasis is on practical application within the classroom, ensuring that teachers can effectively implement the principles outlined in the FEAP model.

Trainings

New teachers attend diverse training sessions aimed at enhancing teachers" classroom management, classroom engagement, assessment, lesson planning, building relationships, and professionalism. Going beyond theoretical concepts, these sessions include follow-up coaching cycles where educators learn to craft comprehensive classroom systems and structures These plans encompass expectations, rules, procedures, consequences, and positive behavior systems. Specialists and mentors collaborate closely with teachers to navigate lesson planning and assessment, supporting them in developing well-structured lesson plans aligned with grade-level content, incorporating higher-order thinking questions, differentiation, standards-based assessments, and various methods to assess student understanding through classroom observations, focus observations, planning sessions, and model lessons.

Connections

The Induction Program places a strong emphasis on building connections between teachers and students.

Specialists work in tandem with educators to develop and implement strategies for positive reinforcement, non-contingent attention, reward systems, and student-centered connections. These initiatives contribute to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Well-Being

In addition to pedagogical support, our Induction Program prioritizes the overall well-being of teachers. Our program includes professional well-being sessions addressing various aspects of personal and professional growth, such as prioritization, strengths development, habit formation, and goal setting. Through this holistic approach, the Induction Program is committed to ensuring that educators not only succeed but also find fulfillment in their essential roles within the DCPS community.
