DCPS GEAR UP supports students in their pursuit of postsecondary education and makes available a GEAR UP Scholarship for eligible students in the graduating class of 2023 attending one of our seven GEAR UP high schools.  Students must apply for the scholarship during their senior year of high school and before the June 15th deadline. If awarded, students will receive a one-year GEAR UP Scholarship.

Eligible students will demonstrate financial need at the time of application and meet the following criteria:

• Applicant must be under the age of 22 years old when you are first awarded the GEAR UP Scholarship;

• Applicant must be in the graduating class of 2023 and have received a standard high school diploma from a Duval County Public Schools GEAR UP site (William Raines, First Coast, Englewood, Terry Parker, Westside, Riverside, or Jean Ribault High School);

• Applicant must have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.25 or higher;

• The school or university you are attending must be eligible to receive federal financial aid (have a federal school code) AND is an accredited post-secondary education institution in the Department of Education’s accreditation database; and

• Applicant must have participated in GEAR UP services offered under the 2017-2024 GU grant.

The dollar amount of the scholarship varies based on available funding.  Students must apply for the scholarship by June 8th.  Only complete applications will be considered.  Students will be notified of awards via mail/or email.

Gaining Early Awareness & Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federal program designed to provide early intervention services and programs to students in middle school and high school.  The mission our GEAR UP program is to increase students’ aspirations toward high school and beyond and to create experiences that give students access to traditional/non-traditional postsecondary options.  It is our vision that every GEAR UP student has access to, attends, and graduates from a postsecondary institution receiving a certificate, degree, or specialized training and are thriving individuals in their respective communities. We currently serve a cohort of over 3,000 students in 7 high schools across Duval County and follow them through the completion of their first year of college.

Your gift to the GEAR UP BELIEF Scholarship Campaign provides hope and incentive for students and families who otherwise might not consider college as an option because of its cost.  Join our movement to guide and produce tomorrow’s great leaders by committing your support to the GEAR UP BELIEF scholarship.  Your donation will be used for the purpose of providing scholarships to students in the graduating class of 2023 attending our seven GEAR UP high schools. Gifts will be applied to the GEAR UP BELIEF Scholarship Trust.
