Phillip Fain, a native of Jacksonville, Florida resided in Charleston, South Carolina and attending Academic Magnet High School until turning 17, then returned and graduated from Sandalwood High School. He became interested in athletic training because he never had one in either of his high schools. During his junior year in high school he suffered a torn ACL in his right knee and never had the proper guidance. His school did not have access to an athletic trainer, and living in a low income household did not have accessible physical therapy and care. During the early high school football he played right guard and defensive tackle and receiving several scholarship offers but due to the ACL injury, football was off the table. Possessing a great desire to provide quality health care that he never received he decided to become an athletic trainer. In 10 ten years he plans to be fully active in the community as an athletic trainer and hopes to open his own facility where athletes can come and receive care at little or no cost.

What is a Certified Athletic Trainer?
Certified Athletic Trainers (ATs) are licensed health care professionals who collaborate with physicians. The services provided by ATs comprise prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. ATs work under the direction of physicians, as prescribed by state licensure statutes. Certification is earned through the Board of Certification (National Athletic Trainers Association)

Meet Our Team Physician
Dr. Pennick provides volunteer service to William M. Raines High School student-athletes. In his role as Team Physician, he provides leadership and direction to Head Athletic Trainer Mr. Fain, Mr. Hall, and our entire coaching staff. Dr. Pennick works along with individual family care providers and emergency physicians to ensure safe sports participation for our students. While student-athletes are NEVER required to be treated by Dr. Pennick in his medical practice, he serves as the final medical authority for Raines Athletics and may, from time to time, collaborate with personal physicians to ensure safe sports participation for all students. To assist Dr. Pennick in his role, please be sure to submit all requested paperwork following your physician visit for pre-participation physicals and any visits related to injury.
Dr. Pennick can be reached through Head Athletic Trainer, Mr. Fain and he is generally in attendance at all home Varsity Football contests.
If you see Dr. Pennick on campus or in the community, thank him for his volunteer service to the Vikings!
