Emergency Transport of an Athlete

 Transportation Procedure:

If an emergency arises on campus during

Practices: ATC will provide first aid and pre-transport care to the patient. Head Coach of the team will call 911 when directed by ATC. When EMS arrives they will transport patient to either UF Health (Shands) Hospital, Nemours, or Wolfson Children's Hospital.

  • Usually parent/guardians are not present at practices if more than one coach is at practice it is required that one Sandalwood coach or Sandalwood administrator/ staff member goes with the student athlete to the emergency room. ATC will NOT ride with athlete to hospital due to their presence needed at the practices occuring at school.

  • ATC will contact parent/guardian.

Games at Sandalwood High School:

  • For JV/VR football: Liberty Ambulance is always on the sideline. Liberty Ambulance will dispatch EMS unit to come to Sandalwood High School.

  • If parent/guardian are NOT available and more than one Sandalwood Coach is at an event, it is required that one Sandalwood coach or Sandalwood administrator/ staff member goes with the student athlete to the emergency room. ATC will contact parent/guardian.

  • For all other sports: The Athletic Trainer or Coach will call 911, JFRD will respond to emergency. If parent/guardian are NOT available and more than one Stanton Coach is at an event, it is required that one Stanton coach or Stanton administrator/ staff member goes with the student athlete to the emergency room. ATC will contact parent/guardian.

Away Games

  • For JV/VR Football: Ambulance Services are on the sidelines at away games. ATC will signal for EMS, if EMS is not onsite ATC will instruct a coach to call 911.

  • Same as above for all other sports away. If ATC is not present with team the ATC of the home school will contact EMS or coach. ESTABLISH who is calling before the beginning of the game. Coaches will be responsible for providing first aid care until EMS arrives.

    • Keep patient calm

    • Do not move patient until EMS establishes it is ok

    • Maintain crowd control and HIPPA compliance, if necessary covered injured area with a towel to shield the injury from the athlete, parents, and fans in the stands.

Students and/or student aides may NOT transport athletes
