Welcome to the DCPS STEM SIMS Program! Empowering Future Innovators in Modeling and Simulation
Program Overview
The DCPS STEM SIMS program aims to provide students with comprehensive education and training in Modeling and Simulation, preparing them for exciting STEM careers. This program is designed to:
Integrate Coding in Career Academies: Modify the state-approved career academy course progression to include coding instruction.
Build a Simulation Design Lab: Create a space where students can learn and develop modeling and simulation projects.
Mobile Simulation Experience: Utilize a portable simulation system to engage and recruit students, offering hands-on experiences in various simulation scenarios.
Courses Offered
2023-2024 Academic Year:
Digital Information Technology: Introduction to fundamental business and information systems skills, including databases, internet use, social media, spreadsheets, and web design.
Modeling & Simulation Foundations: Overview of the modeling and simulation field, C# coding in Unity, and visual model creation for professional portfolios.
Future Courses:
Modeling & Simulation Design: Principles of modeling and simulation design with hands-on activities to build 3D simulations.
Modeling & Simulation Application: Advanced modeling techniques for creating complex 3D simulations.
Modeling & Simulation Innovation and Prototyping: Capstone project to demonstrate competency in modeling and simulation research and design.
Program Benefits
Industry Certifications: Students can earn certifications such as the WordPress Certified Editor and Unity Certified User.
Hands-on Learning: Students engage in practical activities, building real-world skills in a state-of-the-art simulation lab.

Extracurricular Activities
Technology Student Association (TSA): Participation in community service projects and state competitions in Visualization & Animation.
Girls Who Code: Weekly meetings focused on Women in Tech, book club activities, and creative projects like the Black History Month door decorating contest.
Integrated Learning
Students benefit from interdisciplinary projects that combine modeling and simulation with subjects like World History, Science, and English Language Arts, creating a rich, immersive educational experience.
