Through our High School Acceleration programs, we offer multiple pathways for students to begin working toward their college degree at little to no cost. Each of our high schools offers at least one acceleration program:
Early College: Students are enrolled full-time at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) and can graduate with an Associate Degree in Arts or Science.
Dual Enrollment: Students take college-level courses at their high school or FSCJ.
Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE): Students take college-level courses at their school and can test for college credit.
Career and Workforce Training
Career and Technical Education
Our Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses allow students to take courses aligned with high-demand industries. With career clusters ranging from Agriculture to Information Technology to Health Science, our CTE students are gaining real-world, hands-on experience.
Many of our CTE programs are enhanced with business partnerships, some of which include Mayo Clinic, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, JEA, Miller Electric, and VyStar Credit Union. Through these partnerships and experiences, students earn industry-recognized certifications, internships, and even jobs.
Duval Ready Diploma Designation
The Duval Ready Diploma Designation is a diploma seal presented to students who have completed training in workplace skills using the Florida Ready to Work curriculum. These skills include professionalism, team building, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Contact your school counselor or administration.
High School Athletics
Football, wrestling, volleyball, track, and more. Our high schools are home to more than a dozen competitive fall, winter, and spring interscholastic sports, all governed by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and with local and state competitions.
Also unique to Duval County Public Schools is the district-run Gateway Conference. Student-athletes and teams from across the district compete in city-wide tournaments as they vie for championship status.
Fine Arts for Every Student
All of our high school students are exposed to the fine arts before they graduate. Our high school arts courses – which encompass music, visual arts, theater, or dance – provide students with advanced expressions in critical thinking and creativity, building upon what they've learned in elementary and middle school.
Students who wish to distinguish themselves can also earn the Florida Seal of Fine Arts. This diploma designation recognizes graduating seniors who've dedicated a significant portion of their high school journey to the study and pursuit of excellence in the fine arts.

Student Advocates
We value student voices and seek to incorporate their feedback into many of the district's most important decisions. As a result, we've worked to include high school student representation in the following groups and committees:
Sales Surtax Oversight Committee
Code of Conduct Committee
Textbook Adoption
Title IX
...and more
We additionally support JAGS (Jacksonville Association of Governing Students), a group that provides input to the superintendent, school board, and staff. Student representatives are nominated to serve in these capacities by principals and other school administrators.
Safety, Security, and Wellness
Our students cannot gain a high-quality education without first feeling safe and secure.
In addition to having Duval County School Police officers stationed at every high school, our campuses are also equipped with Evolv weapons-detection systems, camera surveillance, radio access, and CENTEGIX panic alert systems for all district staff.
We additionally conduct regular emergency drills training in conjunction with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
We also offer the following in support of students' social and emotional health:
Non-clinical school counseling services (such as grief support, coping skills, and anger management)
Free mental health counseling through Full Service Schools
Established protocols to report alleged acts of bullying and employee misconduct
"Wellness Wednesdays," or monthly instruction that supports mental and emotional health
Several of our schools also offer GROW clubs, which are student-led organizations designed to help promote emotional and mental wellness.
