FLDOE Online ESOL Training Modules
With funding provided through the Florida and the Islands Comprehensive Center (FLICC), the FLDOE Bureau for Student Achievement through Language Acquisition (SALA) has developed an ESOL professional development site consisting of three training modules that can be utilized separately or in their entirety.
These modules are strictly designed to support teacher and administrator knowledge of ESOL strategies, guidelines, and legislative mandates needed to provide exceptional services for our ELLs and their families. A review of the ELD standards and instructional strategies are also included. Because no assessments or evaluations are tied to these training modules, they should be used to enhance already existing professional development activities.
Although SALA suggests that the three courses be included in the ESOL endorsement classes, they cannot take the place of the META- training requirements. Also, these modules are not password protected, so they can be accessed by all stakeholders, including higher education staff, parents and community leaders. The three training modules are:
Module I: ESOL 101-Overview of the ESOL Program in Florida
Module II: English Language Development (ELD) Standards in Review
Module III: ESOL Strategies and Resources
The interactive site for the ESOL training modules can be found on the SALA website under ESOL e-Learning and can be used easily with various internet platforms.
