STEM: Supporting STEM Intregration
13 Schools, 11 Elementary Schools and 2 Middle Schools
2 Million dollars over 5 years
The Duval County Science Department is proud to announce that we are the recipient of a $2 million DoDEA grant to support standards education in 13 of our schools.
Project RECRUIT (Reinforcing Education Critical to Understanding Interactive Technology) provides experiential STEM learning opportunities into the daily instruction at elementary and middle schools with high military student enrollment. The proposed project will embed quality STEM technology and activity-based learning into schools, provide field trips to the RECRUIT STEM Lab, develop instructional curriculum, and provide professional development resources to support instruction. Students will have access to real-world, experiential STEM in the military-aligned areas of robotics and engineering, flight simulation and aerospace, cybersecurity, coding, drones, and computer science.
RECRUIT will provide hands-on learning with advanced STEM tools and technology to increase foundational STEM knowledge in elementary school; and connects STEM learning to real-world applications to increase STEM interest in middle school. Early exposure to STEM-related careers will spark interest and motivate students to excel at STEM coursework in preparation for an exciting, challenging career. RECRUIT’s professional development will give teachers the confidence and ability to deliver STEM lessons effectively.
The following schools will be recipients of funding and STEM learning through Project RECRUIT:
Anchor Academy, Mayport Elementary, Venetia Elementary, San Mateo Elementary, Sheffield Elementary, New Berlin Elementary, Southside Estates Elementary, Oceanway Elementary,
Windy Hill Elementary, Stockton Elementary, Beauclerc Elementary, Mayport Middle, and Oceanway Middle.
Project Staff: $955,929
STEM equipment and supplies directly to schools: $525,600
Project RECRUIT STEM Lab: $210,063
